Three Golden Rules of Goal Setting!
Jim Rohn once said, “If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.”
I find it intriguing that very few people plan goals. And even fewer write their goals down. However, from my experience, goal setting is one of the most powerful techniques in life. I know because I’ve used it and it actually works!!
I’ve also learned that there are three golden rules to goal setting.
1) Your goals need to be S.M.A.R.T.
S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Achievable
R = Relevant
T = Time-bounded
For example, saying I want to lose weight and be skinny is not S.M.A.R.T. However, a good goal to set is “I want to lose 2 pounds every week for the next 3 months by exercising once a day and stop snacking at night.”
2) You need to physically write your goals down on paper.
You can’t just think about it in your head. A study showed that people who write their goals down are ten times more likely to achieve them.
3) You need to look at your goals and visualize it daily.
For example, you should place your printed goal sheet next to your bathroom mirror and do this exercise in the morning. This helps to reinforce and focus your brain subconsciously to achieve your goals.
Writing goals down is easy but requires a ton of focus and many shy away from it. But I know it’ll make a huge difference in your life not just on a business front but even in your personal life.
